[ Minato wanders down the hall, stopping right outside Vincent's door. He knows the man lives in this particular room, but he's never seen the inside of it.
He knocks a couple of times on the door before shuffling back a bit, patiently waiting for a response.
In truth, there's a reason why Minato's requested to examine Vincent's coffin. Others might not necessarily approve of that reason, but Vincent Valentine seems pretty chill. Seems like the sort who is good at keeping secrets. ]
[The door opens slowly, and Vincent fills its space easily, being well over six feet. He gazes down at Minato, a mixed look in his eyes. Hesitance, some regret. Mostly because he still feels guilty for not being able to control himself during those games.
Vincent closes his eyes and steps back, nodding for Minato come inside.
The entire room is utterly plain and devoid of any personal touch. Yet, in the bedroom is the coffin, waiting and closed. Large enough for Vincent, and exquisitely cushioned on its inside with a comfortable pillow.
Vincent says absolutely nothing. No "come in" or anything of the sort. Just a gesture and that's it.]
[ Vincent gazes down at Minato; Minato gazes up at Vincent. There's something remorseful surfacing within his eyes, and it's why Minato offers the man a quiet smile. ]
Thanks.
[ He steps into the room, only taking a cursory glance at its interior. After all, there isn't really much to see.
His attention lands on the coffin. Even without it being the reason for Minato's presence, it makes a statement among the empty backdrop of Vincent's room. He heads over to it and rests a hand on its surface. ]
Does it lock from the outside? ...what if you get stuck?
[ He figures that Vincent can probably punch his way out of it, but then he wouldn't have a coffin to sleep in anymore. ]
[You wake up in a courtroom. You’re not really sure how you got here, just that you’re here. There’s Jerry, sitting at the judges box. For some he might be new, and others he might be familiar or semi-familiar. He scrutinizes you, and then motions to the jury box. There’s a plaque that’s sitting on the outside that says “Council”, but there’s no one sitting there. Everything looks clean and maintained, but there’s no one in the courtroom but you and Jerry.
Weird.]
You are charged with severe negligence.
[There’s something about his expression that makes you think that he might’ve already made up his mind…]
The Council has found you Guilty of this. In order to repent and further your rehabilitation, you have been charged to recognize you need forgiveness and ask for it. If there is no action taken, there will be consequences.
[You wake up back in your bed. You remember everything – Jerry, the jury box, the words he spoke to you. Maybe you remember the words he spoke more vividly than anything else.
However you decide to proceed… there will be consequences.]

Also, there are effects for ignoring this Sentencing. It may feel subtle during the first week, but afterwards he may find aspects of the Galian Beast coming to the surface. @sephiroth | backdated a lil but honestly not too much
Vincent, Vash has told me that your birthday was this month. Happy belated birthday. I bought a pastry for you, but I wasn't sure what to get you as a gift. So please teach me Queen's Blood so that you have more people to play it with.
I'll endeavor to learn more about you so that next year, I'm better prepared.
[ he's sure his company isn't that exciting, but it's nice that vincent likes him enough to like having him around. ]
I can't promise that I'll be any good at it [ are you kidding, he's been taught tactics since he could sit up on his own, he'll do just fine. ] but I'd like to try it. I'd like to learn more about the things you like, generally.
I don't know, no. Vash suggested I choose one for myself, so perhaps I'll do that eventually.
[ when sephiroth doesn't hear from vincent for a few days, he thinks that's probably sensible. the two of them are alike in some ways, and after the pain and confusion of vincent's transformation and following rampage, he expects that the older man wants time and space to lick his wounds and recover in peace and quiet. sephiroth also appreciates peace and quiet after he's been in significant pain for some time, and though he doesn't always get it at home, he greatly appreciates when he does. it makes sense not to want to speak to him until he's feeling more himself.
when a week passes, sephiroth has a thought to be.. concerned. perhaps sephiroth should have checked in with him immediately instead? has he mistepped in some other way? if so, he ought to find his mistake and rectify it. or perhaps vincent is more injured than he'd thought. what if his own accelerated healing is failing? surely not.
but as the days crawl by, he can't help but think: what if? what if, what if, what if?
finally, he can't stand the wait any longer. it's unusual for him, taught patience from infancy, but everything about his situation here is unusual for him. it's unusual for him to care so much about someone. and if vincent is hurt, if vincent thinks he's been.. abandoned..
when his knock at the door goes unanswered, when trying the knob reveals it's locked, and when his enhanced hearing picks up nothing inside, he decides to take matters into his own hands: he places his palm against the heavy wood, just above the lock, and he shoves. the door practically explodes open, the frame shattering around the lock as the panel swings violently open to bang against the wall.
he steps over the minor debris and into the older man's room, and when he doesn't find him on the floor, standing, sitting.. his eyes go to the coffin. after a moment of consideration, he crosses the room, and wrenches the lid off with one easy motion of his hand. ]
[Vincent answered the guilt of his transformation by his usual method -- to sleep, the pay for his sins against those he harmed. True, it was out of his control, but it was still him. Vincent Valentine could not aid, he could only hurt.
When the lid of his coffin is wrenched off, Vincent's eyes open and he breathes in deeply, brows knitted as he gazes up at Sephiroth.
Awake.
Slowly, he sits up and blinks blearily.]
...Sephiroth.
[His words are hesitant, unsure.
He'd been tasked to ask for forgiveness, and there is only one person he could think of to ask. Yet... how could Vincent ask for that? For all that is true, and could be true.]
[ in the moment before vincent opens his eyes, sephiroth is tense, frozen still, staring down at the red-clad figure. his narrow shoulders only ease down once vincent is sitting up, once he's said his name.
he releases the lid to slide down onto the floor next to the coffin, then sinks down to sit on the edge. ]
I haven't heard from you. I thought you were recovering, but then I thought perhaps I should have been more attentive. [ normal human behavior is hard sometimes. ] .. I apologize about your door.
some time this week vincent will find a CUTELY WRAPPED BOX (bright red cherry print, an absolutely huge gold bow) delivered to his doorstep ... along with a card written in surprisingly neat cursive.]
Dear Vincent, I am so thankful that you are part of my life and that we get to spend this holiday season together. I hope your Yuletide is as happy as the happiness you bring me! :-) -Vash
[It's early in the 25th morning. Most people are still sleeping and the sun is only about to send its first rays to break the darkness of the night sky. But then there is a sudden knock on a door.. Or erm, on the top of the coffin? Huh?! Who could it be! Whenever Vincent gets to the door, be it immediately or hours late they will find a christmas wreath with white roses placed on their doorstep. There might even be snowy (or wet!) small hoof marks leading away from the present. Hm. I wonder, who indeed did deliver this?
On the wreath there is a letter that reads:]
Dearest Mr. Valentine,
Thank you for helping me familiarize myself with the firearms. Your teaching has been greatly appreciated and I hope to continue our collaboration in the future. There will be a feast held at the Inn’s tavern for the next 12 days and I welcome you to enjoy it for free. There will be warm food, treats and homemade mead and wine at your disposal.
Merry Christmas.
